Acting Prime Minister Albin Kurti addressed the ongoing legal proceedings concerning former leaders of the Kosovo Liberation Army (UÇK) currently taking place in The Hague. During his remarks, Kurti voiced strong support for the individuals facing international judicial action, expressing his conviction regarding their innocence. He characterized the actions of the UÇK as constituting a legitimate national liberation struggle.
Kurti asserted that the historical significance of the movement transcends any legal judgment. He stated that, in his assessment, no judicial proceeding, whether conducted within Kosovo or internationally, possesses the capacity to diminish or discredit the nature of the UÇK’s fight. “The liberation struggle of the people of Kosovo, which the UÇK was the bearer and organizer of, is a legitimate liberation struggle, and no judicial process, neither in the country nor outside it, can tarnish the UÇK,” Kurti declared.
He added that the leadership believes in the innocence of the individuals involved. Furthermore, Kurti sought to decouple the legal process from ongoing diplomatic efforts. He emphasized that the judicial actions against the former UÇK leaders in The Hague are entirely separate from the framework of political negotiations aimed at stability in the region.
The statement underscored a commitment to a future where the people of Kosovo can return to a state of freedom, maintaining that the principles underpinning their initial struggle remain valid regardless of the legal outcomes.
