Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has issued a one-week deadline for Belarus’s leader, Alexander Lukashenko, to withdraw military equipment from the border with Ukraine. Zelensky stated that this materiel is being utilized to direct artillery fire against the Ukrainian population. The Ukrainian President warned that Kyiv would take further action if the request to withdraw is not met.
“I am giving Lukashenko one week to withdraw the military equipment from the Ukrainian border, which is being used to direct artillery fire against the Ukrainian population. Otherwise, we will do it ourselves,” Zelensky stated. The announcement follows reports that the Belarusian leader had previously requested forgiveness from Zelensky.
Belarus, which maintains close ties with Russia, has at various times permitted the use of its territory by Russian troops and military equipment. The ultimatum places immediate diplomatic and security pressure on Lukashenko regarding the presence of military assets near the Ukrainian border. The situation underscores ongoing tensions in the region, with Ukraine demanding the removal of weaponry that it claims is actively targeting its citizens.
