Zulfaj: With SEPA, the diaspora and businesses will save around 60 million euros in payment costs

Jeton Zulfaj, the Chief Negotiator of Kosovo with the European Union, stated that achieving full integration into the Single European Payments Area (SEPA) would yield direct economic benefits for Kosovo’s diaspora and local businesses. According to Zulfaj, joining SEPA is expected to significantly lower the costs associated with international transactions and remittances. Speaking during an interview on the “Përballje Podcast” via Telegrafi.com, Zulfaj provided details regarding the legislative efforts underway to facilitate this integration.

He noted that the government had submitted several proposed laws related to SEPA to the Assembly, specifically mentioning that two such laws were introduced. He clarified that while multiple pieces of legislation were put forward, only one of these measures had successfully passed through the Assembly proceedings. Zulfaj emphasized the significance of these legal frameworks for Kosovo’s alignment with European standards.

He explained that SEPA represents a unified system for making payments across participating nations. The successful adoption of these laws is crucial for Kosovo’s continued integration into the broader European economic structure. The successful implementation of these measures, Zulfaj indicated, is key to streamlining financial flows and enhancing economic connectivity for the nation.
