August 10, 1998, is noted as a significant date in the history of the Municipality of Kaçanik. On this day, the area witnessed the heroic actions of several individuals, including Commander Agim Bajrami, alongside comrades Besnik Begunca and Xheladin Kurtaj, whose actions became a permanent part of local history. Today marks the 28th anniversary of the noted passing of heroes Agim Bajrami, Besnik Begunca, and Xheladin Kurtaj, a commemoration that also recognizes the Day of the Martyrs of the 162nd Brigade “Agim Bajrami.”
In recognition of the sacrifices made, the President of Kosovo, Hashim Thaçi, participated in the ceremony.
During the event, the President conferred the highest state honor, the “Hero of Kosovo,” upon 16 martyrs from the Municipality of Kaçanik. The recipients recognized with this distinction include Avdylgafur Luma, Bashkim Vishi, Besnik Begunca, Fadil Qaka, Hetem Hasaj, Izahir Troni, Milaim Loku, Muhamet Zeneli, Murat Lika, Nazim Terziu, Nazmi Osmani, Osman Luma, and Xheladin K. The commemoration serves to honor the memory of these individuals and to acknowledge the enduring legacy of the heroes associated with the 162nd Brigade.
The observance highlights the historical importance of the sacrifices made by the community members during that period.
