Berisha: The only foreign investor in Zvërnec and they want to remove him

PD leader Sali Berisha has issued further commentary regarding the planned investment in the Zvërnec area, a project that has been marked by on-the-ground protests and heightened tensions. Berisha asserted that, in his assessment, this initiative constitutes one of the most significant investments undertaken in Albania over the last three decades. He stated that the Democratic Party (PD) supports attracting foreign capital, criticizing the current handling of the situation.

Berisha claimed that the current actions are negatively impacting the remaining foreign investor, citing an alleged statement where the investor indicated a change in political support. Addressing the specific situation at Zvërnec, a statement attributed to Rama noted that Greek media appeared to align itself with the protesters. The PD, according to the report, advocates for the absolute and complete respect of property rights.

When questioned about the proper procedure for such large-scale developments, the statement emphasized the necessity of official governmental backing. It stressed that if a project has received approval from the government, supported by documentation signed by official institutions, including the cadastre and other relevant agencies, the state’s position regarding the property rights is considered sound. Berisha’s comments underscore the ongoing debate surrounding the balance between national development projects and the security of foreign investment within Albania.

  1. This sounds like the development is being used more for political point-scoring than for actual economic growth.
