Turks, Germans, Serbs, and French are the tourists who most frequently visit the Republic of Macedonia.

According to the State Statistical Office, in April of this year, a total of 97,358 tourists were registered, who accounted for 174,649 nights spent. Of the total tourist count, foreign visitors constituted the majority at 79.5%, while domestic tourists accounted for 20.5%. This distribution was also reflected in the nights spent, with foreign tourists utilizing 73.2% of the total nights, compared to 26.8% from domestic sources.

Analyzing the period from January through April 2026 reveals positive growth compared to the previous year. The overall number of tourists saw a 3.5% increase. Specifically, foreign tourists showed robust growth, increasing by 4.8%, while the domestic tourist segment experienced a minor decline of 0.1%.

Regarding overnight stays, the total number of nights rose by 0.3%. This increase was driven by foreign tourists, whose nights spent grew by 0.6%, contrasting with a 0.2% decrease in the domestic sector. The data highlights key international markets contributing to the overall tourism figures.

The highest number of foreign tourists originated from Turkey, with 11,826 visitors, followed by Germany (11,463), Serbia (6,073), and France (5,695). These figures provide a comprehensive view of both the current month’s activity and the year-to-date trends for the tourism sector.
