BDI: Two-year delay for the Skopje-Bllacë highway, propaganda and an attempt to divert it

Construction has commenced on the final segment of the Skopje-Bllacë highway. Opposition member BDI commented that while this development is beneficial for citizens and strengthens the strategic link with Kosovo, the public should be informed of the details surrounding the project. According to BDI’s statement, the initiative was conceived, designed, financed, and championed by the government led by BDI.

BDI noted that this decision represented a strategic and political pivot. They pointed out that initial feasibility studies had suggested that a highway connection was not economically viable. Nevertheless, the government opted to connect Bllacë—identified as the primary gateway to Kosovo and a crucial component of Corridor 8—to Skopje via a modern highway standard rather than a conventional main road.

Furthermore, BDI highlighted the financial backing secured for the undertaking. The party’s statement confirmed that 20 million euros in grants were obtained from the European Union to support the project, and all necessary documentation for the highway’s development has been prepared. The commencement of construction marks a significant step in improving regional infrastructure connecting Skopje and Bllacë.
