Debris found in the Shkumbin River, police stop 54-year-old from Tetova

Police authorities in Tetovo have detained a local resident following an investigation into an environmental violation. MPB Macedonia reported that on June 30, 2026, at approximately 6:00 PM, officers from the SPB Tetovo detained an individual identified as B.S., aged 54, on Ljubo Bozhinovski Pish street in Tetovo. The detention occurred due to suspicion of the criminal act of “pollution of the environment and nature,” an offense stipulated under Article 218 of the Penal Code.

The investigation was initiated after a video surfaced on social media platforms. The footage reportedly showed an individual arriving in a passenger vehicle bearing Tetova license plates and dumping bags of unidentified waste materials into the Shkumbin river, near Vidoe Smilevski-Bato street. Acting on this evidence, the local police department successfully located the alleged perpetrator.

Authorities confirmed that the individual subsequently admitted to the dumping of waste during an official interview process. The local police department stated that the Public Prosecutor’s Office has been formally notified regarding the incident. Following the completion of a full documentation process concerning the environmental damage, the case will proceed according to established legal protocols.

The actions taken underscore the commitment of the police in Tetovo to uphold environmental regulations and maintain the ecological integrity of the region.
