The Ramë Declaration on Kosovo ‘nerves’ Belgrade, Vučić: The reality is not easy for us

Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama issued a strong statement regarding the status of Kosovo, asserting that Serbia must acknowledge the current geopolitical reality. During an interview with Euronews, Rama contended that Serbia bears the primary responsibility for the ongoing impasse in dialogue concerning Kosovo. He argued that Belgrade remains unprepared to accept the established facts following Kosovo’s declaration of independence.

Rama explicitly stated, “Serbia is more responsible for the situation we have in the dialogue because it is not ready to accept the reality, and the reality has changed. There is nothing called ‘Kosovo and Metohija’ anymore; there is the Republic of Kosovo.”

The declaration by Rama directly challenged Serbia’s historical nomenclature for the region. In response to these remarks, Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić addressed the comments.

While acknowledging that the evolving reality presents significant challenges for the Serbian side, Vučić offered a measured response, indicating that the situation remains complex for Serbia. The exchange highlights a continued divergence in perspectives between Belgrade and Pristina regarding the political status and recognition of Kosovo. The statements underscore deep disagreements over the path forward for dialogue and the international recognition of Kosovo’s sovereignty.
