The Mayor of Struga, Mendi Qyra, has announced plans for the demolition of illegal constructions situated within the UNESCO protected area surrounding Lake Ohrid. According to Qyra, the local municipality is currently reviewing applications for the legalization of existing structures. However, he stipulated that any building that fails to meet established requirements or impedes the general urban plan will be demolished.
Furthermore, Qyra indicated that the region anticipates a new piece of legislation specifically governing the beaches along the lake’s edge. He issued a public appeal to Struga residents considering building on the shoreline, strongly advising against such actions, as all unauthorized constructions are slated for removal. “Struga currently has numerous unauthorized structures,” Qyra stated.
“We are awaiting a law for the beaches, which will likely impose restrictions. The outcome will depend on determining the most appropriate framework for these unpermitted constructions.”
