Citizens in Pristina have blocked ongoing municipal construction work on a street situated near the Llap Mosque. According to reports, the protest stems from the mayor of the capital, Përparim Rama, reportedly deciding to alter the street’s design. Currently a four-lane thoroughfare, the proposed change would reduce it to three lanes, with specific access points designated from the city of Podujevë and two exits into Pristina.
Local residents argue that this planned reconfiguration will negatively impact the businesses operating along the street by significantly restricting the supply chain and the ability to deliver goods to premises. The citizens stated that their concerns were brought to the municipality, but Mayor Rama allegedly refused to meet with them, even after they submitted a petition bearing nearly 150 signatures the previous day. The demonstration highlights ongoing tensions between municipal development plans and local economic concerns within Pristina.
