Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky issued a strong condemnation of recent Russian air attacks targeting Kyiv and its surrounding regions. Following the evening strikes, which resulted in 13 reported fatalities and approximately 40 injuries, Zelensky stated that Ukraine’s defensive capabilities remain a critical factor in any serious discussion about peace. Speaking via Telegram, the President accused Russia of systematically combining various types of weaponry, including ballistic missiles, cruise missiles, and drones.
According to Zelensky, this combination is designed to inflict maximum damage upon civilian infrastructure within the capital and the surrounding areas. He noted that while Moscow appears to be increasing its investment in advanced ballistic missile technology, the current defensive posture of Ukraine is insufficient. Zelensky emphasized that the lack of adequate defensive systems poses a significant threat to the civilian population.
He asserted that until Ukraine secures a sufficient complement of advanced air defense mechanisms, such as Patriot systems, Russia will not approach the issue of peace with seriousness. The statements underscore the ongoing military confrontation and the Ukrainian government’s focus on bolstering its defensive shield against sustained aerial bombardment.
