Accusation against the former director of the General and Common Service damaged the state budget by about 8 million denars

The Public Prosecution has announced that, following an investigation, a public prosecutor from the Basic Public Prosecutor’s Office in Skopje filed charges. The charges are directed against the former director of the General and Common Services of the Government. The accusations pertain to two specific criminal offenses outlined in the Penal Code: “Abuse of position and official authority,” citing Article 353, paragraph 4 in connection with paragraph 1, and “Forgery of an official document,” under Article 361, paragraph 1.

The public prosecutor alleges that the accused misused his official standing and exceeded his authorized authority during the period spanning from July 3, 2021, to March 2024. Specifically, the charges detail that the former director issued travel decisions and travel orders. These documents were allegedly processed for himself and several employees within the General and Common Services, despite the absence of any established justification or basis for authorizing official international travel.

The filing of these charges marks a significant development in the investigation into the misuse of state resources. The legal action asserts that the actions taken constituted a clear breach of professional duty and violated established governmental procedures. The proceedings are now set to examine the legality of the documentation and the extent to which the accused operated outside the scope of his mandated authority.

The public nature of these charges underscores the state’s commitment to upholding accountability within government institutions.
