Analysis of Ottoman ledger data indicates that the development of Mitrovica was significantly influenced by investments originating from two notable Ottoman figures within the Skopje Sanjak: Isa Beg, who was instrumental in founding several cities including Sarajevo and Jenipazari, and Hoshkadem Vojvoda. These historical details are documented within a scholarly publication titled Mitrovica in the Ottoman Period: History and Architecture. This comprehensive monograph was developed as a component of the “Ottoman Heritage in Mitrovica” project.
The initiative is directed by Oktaj Hasani and received support from the Ministry of Culture, Youth, and Sport of the Republic of Kosovo. In the introduction to the work, Project Director O. Hasani highlighted that the research involved the collaboration of two specialists in the history of the Ottoman period.
This scholarly effort also included the contributions of a scientific employee from the “Ali Hadri” Institute of History in Pristina. The research provides detailed insights into the urban development of Mitrovica during the Ottoman era. By examining primary ledger sources, the monograph establishes the foundational role of these specific individuals in shaping the city’s infrastructure and growth throughout that historical period.
