Ahmeti: ChatGPT dominates school assignments, over 93% of students in Kosovo use artificial intelligence

The integration of artificial intelligence into daily student life is already evident across Kosovo, yet the national education system reportedly lacks a defined framework for its proper incorporation into learning processes. This concern was raised by Agon Ahmeti, the executive director of the ETEA organization, during an appearance on the “Përballje Podcast.” During the discussion, which also addressed the state of education in Kosovo and school safety, Ahmeti focused specifically on the impact of artificial intelligence on modern pedagogy. To assess the current usage, ETEA executed a comprehensive study involving 47 public schools and more than 1,500 students spanning the three pre-university education levels.

According to Ahmeti, the findings from this research indicate that the utilization of artificial intelligence by students is significantly higher than initial projections suggested. The discrepancy between the observed student adoption rate and the lack of institutional guidelines presents a challenge for educational policymakers in Kosovo. Experts suggest that while the technology is becoming deeply embedded in academic routines, the absence of standardized curriculum integration and teacher training protocols creates variability in educational outcomes.

The findings underscore an urgent need for structured guidelines to guide educators and students on how to responsibly leverage artificial intelligence. Establishing a clear framework is viewed as critical to ensuring that the technology serves to enhance, rather than disrupt, the quality and equity of education throughout Kosovo’s academic institutions.

  1. It’s concerning how much students are already relying on AI when the education system doesn’t seem to have guidelines for it yet.
