AIP and ATK join forces to oversee online businesses and media portals

The Agency for Information and Privacy (AIP) and the Kosovo Tax Administration (ATK) have formalized a partnership through the signing of a Memorandum of Cooperation. This agreement is designed to enhance the oversight of economic activities conducted within the digital environment. Under the terms of the cooperation, the two agencies will conduct joint and coordinated inspections targeting online businesses, social media pages, digital media platforms, and related online services.

These inspections will operate within the defined legal competencies of both the AIP and the ATK. This collaboration is timely, given the documented growth in trade and service provision facilitated through the internet. Both institutions noted that monitoring activities and the handling of complaints have revealed recurring instances where entities fail to comply with established personal data protection requirements.

Furthermore, the partnership aims to address broader operational challenges within the digital economy. By coordinating efforts, the AIP and ATK intend to create a more robust regulatory framework for the online sector. The joint approach ensures that both fiscal compliance and data privacy standards are simultaneously enforced across various digital touchpoints, including traditional media outlets and newer online portals.

This synergy between tax oversight and data privacy protection is expected to standardize compliance practices for businesses operating in Kosovo’s rapidly expanding digital marketplace.
