Switzerland has reinforced its commitment to the sustainable economic growth of Kosovo by launching a new initiative titled “Greening Private Enterprises in Kosovo (GPEK).” This project is specifically designed to assist small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in Kosovo as they adapt to the increasingly stringent environmental standards required by European markets. The official agreement for the project was signed by the Swiss Ambassador to Kosovo, Jürg Sprecher, and the Acting Minister of Industry, Entrepreneurship, Trade, and Industry, Kusari-Lila. The GPEK project originates from the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC) and receives co-financing support from the Embassy of Sweden in Pristina.
The core objective of this initiative is to enhance the competitiveness and overall sustainability of Kosovo’s business sector. This focus is timely given the growing emphasis on environmental compliance within European trade frameworks. By facilitating the transition of local businesses toward greener practices, the GPEK aims to help Kosovar SMEs meet international market demands.
The program will support the necessary adjustments for enterprises operating within Kosovo to align with modern European sustainability criteria. This effort underscores a bilateral commitment to integrating environmental responsibility into the economic fabric of Kosovo’s private sector, thereby fostering long-term, sustainable development across the region.
