The Ministry of Transport has re-launched the tender for the purchase of new buses for the City of Skopje for the third time. Skopje Mayor Orce Gjorgjievski voiced his disappointment regarding the second failure of the government’s tender process for these vehicles. During a recent Council session, in response to concerns raised by councilors, Mayor Gjorgjievski addressed the current state of public transportation in the capital.
He stated that the system’s issues would be resolved following the acquisition of 100 electric buses for Skopje and an additional 50 new buses designated for other municipal areas through government purchases. Regarding the current procurement effort, the Mayor confirmed that the tender process is ongoing and has been reopened, expressing optimism for a successful outcome. He acknowledged the difficulties currently experienced by citizens.
“Believe me, we are giving our all,” he stated. Furthermore, he reported on recent operational improvements, noting that during the previous Council session, 40 buses were successfully repaired and are now back in service. The ongoing effort to secure new buses aims to stabilize and improve the city’s public transit infrastructure.
