Action for Mothers and Children (AMC) is scheduled to mark the Global Week for Action on NCDs in 2026, taking place from August 31 to September 4. This observance joins the worldwide effort to enhance measures for preventing and managing non-communicable diseases. Non-communicable diseases (NCDs) are defined as long-term health conditions that are not spread from one individual to another.
These conditions encompass a range of ailments, including cardiovascular diseases, diabetes, cancers, and chronic respiratory diseases, among others, representing a significant public health challenge both in Kosovo and on a global scale. According to the Kosovo National Institute of Public Health (KNIPH), hypertension and diabetes are among the most frequently reported diagnoses of these non-communicable diseases within Kosovo. Respiratory diseases and cancer also represent considerable concerns.
The growing prevalence of these diseases necessitates coordinated action at multiple levels. The global focus remains on implementing robust strategies to mitigate the impact of NCDs. Therefore, this upcoming week aims to galvanize international and local efforts toward tangible action.
The commitment to addressing these complex diseases underscores the importance of preventative care and comprehensive health interventions to improve public health outcomes globally.
