BDI has expressed significant concern regarding the conditions observed at the border crossing in Tabanoc. The organization stated that the scenes involving migrants being forced to wait under harsh and extreme temperatures are unacceptable and worrying. BDI asserted that the migrants do not deserve mistreatment, degrading waiting conditions, or any treatment that violates human dignity.
According to BDI, the individuals concerned have historically sustained their families and have made substantial contributions to the nation’s economy over several decades. BDI noted that instead of institutions facilitating a quick and dignified passage, the migrants are confronted with long queues, extended waiting periods, and procedures that amount to actual mistreatment, particularly during the height of the summer season. The organization clarified that there is no dispute regarding the necessity of law enforcement or the payment of legal fines.
However, BDI emphasized that the enforcement of law must not escalate into inhumane treatment. The standards of the institutions involved, according to BDI, must ensure that the process remains respectful of human dignity, even when legal procedures are being executed.
