The Minister of Foreign Affairs for Bosnia and Herzegovina, Elmedin Konakoviq, has announced his intention to formally request the cancellation of a concert scheduled to take place in Sarajevo. The performance, featuring Serbian singer Jelena Karleuša, is slated for August 8 at the Aqua club. Konakoviq stated that the basis for his request involves the artist’s public associations and statements concerning sensitive political and national issues.
According to the Minister, the concerns are related to the singer’s perceived support for the government of Serbia and her controversial remarks on national matters. In a statement released via social media, Konakoviq indicated that he would appeal to the Ministry of Interior of the Sarajevo Canton. He specified that the action would be taken in accordance with the provisions of the Law on Public Order.
The Minister asserted that the concert should be halted because, in his view, the performer’s activities risk inciting national and religious tensions within the region. This declaration signals a diplomatic and legal challenge regarding cultural events within the city.
