“Energoinvest”, VLEN: BDI defends project that its own employees have sought to halt

VLEN Accuses BDI of Shielding Problematic Energy Project

The VLEN Coalition has leveled accusations against BDI, alleging the energy ministry is protecting a long-standing project with Energoinvest that has repeatedly failed to meet state objectives. In a statement released to the media, VLEN asserts that the project has experienced minimal implementation over several years, resulting in significant and ongoing expenses for the state budget. According to VLEN, the project, which has seen only 4% implementation in the past five years, has been a subject of concern.

The coalition contends that BDI officials, including those within the Montenegrin Electricity Transmission System Operator (MEPSO), previously expressed opinions to halt the project due to unmet expectations and escalating costs. “BDI today defends a project for which its directors at MEPSO were of the opinion that it should be halted,” the statement reads. “Someone at BDI has a major interest in defending a project that has consistently underperformed, incurring substantial costs for the state.”

VLEN highlighted that efforts to discontinue the contract were not a recent development, suggesting a pattern of inaction and questionable prioritization.

The coalition’s statement underscores concerns regarding the project’s impact on state finances and the apparent conflict of interest surrounding its continued support by BDI.
