According to the official low water information system (Niwis), only 2.4 percent of the Danube’s measuring points currently report low water conditions. The situation along the Rhine also shows concerning readings. At the Kaub measuring station in western Germany, a record low of just 24 centimeters was recorded, with projections indicating a potential drop of up to 17 centimeters in the coming days.
The extent of the low water is visible across many stretches of the riverbed. These diminished levels raise concerns regarding the operational capacity of major European rivers.
