Hezbollah addresses BBC: We will never disarm.

Hezbollah Leader Reaffirms No Disarmament Plans Ahead of Ceasefire

Beirut – Wafiq Safa, the top leader of Hezbollah, stated emphatically that the group would not disarm, just hours before a tentative 10-day ceasefire was set to begin between Lebanon and Israel. The declaration came during an interview with the BBC, conducted in Beirut and offering a rare insight into the group’s position. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has repeatedly emphasized that Hezbollah’s disarmament is a key condition for any further negotiations with the Lebanese government.

Safa responded to questions about disarmament by stating, “Not until a full ceasefire, a real ceasefire. Not before the Israeli withdrawal. Before the return of prisoners, before the return of displaced persons and before reconstruction.

Until then, it is impossible to talk about Hezbollah’s weapons.”

The interview highlighted a level of coordination between Hezbollah and its primary regional backer, Iran. The conditions Safa outlined represent significant obstacles to any potential resolution of the ongoing conflict. The 10-day ceasefire, brokered by the United Nations, aims to provide a period for negotiations and humanitarian efforts.

However, the future of Hezbollah’s weaponry remains a central point of contention, dependent on several conditions being met before any lasting agreement can be reached.
