Indictment for a trial in absentia against five Serbian police officers for war crimes in Kosovo Field

The Special Prosecutor’s Office of the Republic of Kosovo announced on June 1, 2026, that it has initiated criminal charges against five individuals concerning alleged war crimes committed against the civilian population. The formal notice names P.N., Z.D., I.I., S.M., and J.D., who are accused of these crimes. Specifically, the indictment alleges that these five individuals, while serving with the Serbian police at the Police Station in Fushë Kosovë, committed the acts on May 6, 1999.

According to the charges filed, the defendants are accused of detaining and forcibly taking five civilians. These individuals were reportedly transported from the train station to a location identified as “Megja.” At this location, the indictment alleges that the civilians were executed by firearms. Given the current unavailability of the accused before the judicial authorities, the Special Prosecutor’s Office has proposed to the Pristina Court that the ensuing trial proceed in absentia.

The charges are brought against the named individuals for their alleged participation in these war crimes. The filing represents a significant legal action by the Kosovo judicial system regarding events from the 1999 period.
