Iran’s Foreign Minister, Abbas Araghchi, stated that discussions between Iran and the United States are currently suspended. Speaking while in Oman for bilateral negotiations, Araghchi confirmed that Tehran will not initiate any formal talks with Washington if the U.S. continues to violate a previously established temporary agreement between the two nations.
During the address, Araghchi explicitly stated, “We currently do not have negotiations with America.” However, he noted that communication channels remain active. He added that Iran continues to exchange messages via intermediaries, and these third parties are actively working to identify pathways to resume discussions. The Minister emphasized that the resumption of substantive talks is contingent upon specific actions from the U.S.
According to the Iranian assessment, the primary prerequisite for any dialogue is the resolution of ongoing violations concerning the bilateral understanding. Furthermore, Araghchi indicated that the U.S. must compensate for the breaches detailed within the existing memorandum of understanding before any movement toward renewed engagement can occur.
This statement underscores the current diplomatic impasse between the two countries. The emphasis placed by the foreign ministry suggests that Iran views adherence to the terms of the existing agreement as a non-negotiable prerequisite for any future high-level talks.
