Killed police colleagues, Enea Mekolli in custody following the tragic incident

A serious incident unfolded today in Maliq, Albania, resulting in the death of one police officer and the injury of another. The confrontation involved an individual named Violand Braçellari, who was subsequently apprehended by State Police. During the operation, the police attempted to secure Braçellari’s surrender.

When he refused the commands, he opened fire on the officers present. The ensuing exchange of gunfire led to the fatality of Inspector Enea Mekolli, 34, who was killed in the line of duty. Additionally, Inspector Edison Adri, 36, sustained injuries during the attack.

Both officers were members of the Special Forces unit known as “Shqiponja” of the DVP Korçë. Following the incident where Inspector Enea Mekolli was killed, authorities continued their investigation into the responsibilities surrounding the operation in Maliq. After the confrontation, the State Police secured the perpetrator and ensured the injured officer was transported to the Tirana hospital for medical care.
