Kurti Addresses Parliament’s Approval of Confiscation Draft Law

Pristina – Prime Minister Albin Kurti addressed concerns surrounding the recently approved initial draft law concerning the Verification and Confiscation of Unjustified Assets, commonly referred to as the “Byron State Verification” legislation. The draft, which proposes a system for identifying and seizing assets deemed unjustly acquired, was debated in the Kosovar Parliament on April 17th. Kurti explained his absence from the parliamentary session today was due to a pre-arranged official visit to Barcelona, Spain.

He confirmed that the draft law was included on the daily parliamentary agenda for first reading. Following the approval in principle, Prime Minister Kurti stated that the government anticipates a vote on the second reading of the draft law to occur as swiftly as possible. The legislation has generated considerable discussion and debate within Kosovo.

The “Byron State Verification” draft law aims to address concerns regarding the potential misuse of public funds. Further details regarding the specifics of the confiscation process are expected to be released in the coming days. —
