Kurti: Serbia continues to deny families of missing persons the right to the truth

Kosovo Prime Minister Kurti Pays Respects to Victims of 1999 Attacks

Pristina, Kosovo – Prime Minister Albin Kurti honored the victims of the 1999 massacres in Hallaq i Vogël and New Rofc near Lipjan, marking the 24th anniversary of the event. On April 19, 1999, Serbian forces killed 20 civilians who were separated from their families and executed, subsequently burying them in a mass grave. Kurti’s visit also served as a remembrance for the abduction of intellectuals from Mitrovica.

According to the Prime Minister, 23 doctors, professors, and human rights activists were taken by Serbian forces from the Zubin Potok area within the Drenova region. “Serbia continues to violate its international obligations,” Kurti stated, emphasizing the ongoing lack of information regarding the fate and location of the missing persons who disappeared during the Kosovo conflict. He underscored that the sacrifices made in the pursuit of freedom remain a guiding principle.

The Prime Minister’s comments reflect continued concerns regarding Serbia’s accountability for wartime actions and its failure to fully address the disappearance of individuals. The event highlights the enduring impact of the conflict on families and the ongoing need for justice and remembrance.

  1. It’s heartbreaking that Serbia continues to obstruct the search for truth and justice for these families.
