LSDM announced today that it has initiated criminal lawsuits against several high-ranking officials concerning the contaminated water incident in Gostivar. The legal action names the Minister of Health, Sashko Klekovski; the Director of the Institute of Public Health, Marija Andonovska; the Director of the State Sanitary and Health Inspectorate, Kiril Lazov; and the Director of the Center for Public Health – Tetovë, Shpendi Ameti. During a press conference, Jon Frçkoski, a member of the LSDM Executive Board, stated that the party is demanding accountability from the health and inspection institutions for actions it alleges were negligent.
Frçkoski noted that the contamination event affected the entire city of Gostivar, resulting in a significant public health crisis. He reported that in excess of a month, nearly 5,000 citizens required hospitalization due to the contaminated water, characterizing the situation as a “health disaster and a total collapse.”
The filing of these lawsuits by LSDM indicates a formal challenge to the professional conduct of the named directors and ministers. The central claim revolves around institutional failures leading to the widespread exposure of the population to unsafe water.
The party asserts that the oversight and management by these key health officials and directors failed to prevent or adequately address the contamination, thereby compromising public health safety in Gostivar.
