Samsung unveils OLED screen in combination for laptops that can reach a peak brightness of 1,600 nits

VESA recently established DisplayHDR True Black 1400, a new high-level industry certification for display panels. This standard significantly elevates brightness requirements, marking a 40% increase over previous high-tier benchmarks, which previously peaked at 1,400 nits. In response to this elevated standard, Samsung has announced that its latest OLED screen technology has successfully achieved the DisplayHDR True Black 1400 certification.

These newly certified panels are currently being supplied to various laptop manufacturers. The technical specifications required for this certification are stringent. Specifically, the display must maintain black levels at or below 0.0005 nits, while simultaneously achieving peak white brightness up to 1,400 nits when operating at a 10% pixel ratio (meaning only 10% of the screen area displays white, with the remainder displaying black).

Samsung achieved this advanced performance through the implementation of a tandem design—a structure involving two OLED panels stacked vertically. This architecture is critical as it enables the panel to achieve a higher maximum brightness output while maintaining precise, deep black levels across the display surface. The adoption of this tandem design represents a significant technological step in meeting the demanding requirements of modern high-end display standards.
