Serbs continue to disrespect official holidays; lessons held in Gračanica

Eid al-Adha is recognized as a state holiday, a status that theoretically applies to all citizens regardless of faith. However, discrepancies in observance were reported this Wednesday within the Municipality of Gračanica, an area predominantly inhabited by the Serb community. In Gračanica, the educational process within schools operating under the parallel Serb system proceeded with full hours, mirroring activities from previous days.

This schedule contrasts with neighboring municipalities where classes were reportedly not held, adhering to the holiday status. Furthermore, the post office in Gračanica, which operates under Kosovo institutions, remained open to serve the local population. When questioned about the deviation from the expected holiday closure, the post office manager provided an explanation.

He stated that operations were necessary because the facility serves as a primary service point and must be maintained. He further noted that this operational status is consistent with practices observed in other municipalities. The situation highlights a divergence in how the state holiday was observed across different local administrative units.

While the holiday status implies a general cessation of routine activities, the continuation of services, such as in the local post office, and the scheduling of educational activities in Gračanica demonstrate a notable deviation from the pattern seen in other areas.
