This measure follows similar protective actions taken by Italy itself. The heightened border scrutiny stems from a significant migration event that occurred on April 30.
On that date, approximately 72,000 individuals entered Ceuta, Spain’s autonomous enclave, illegally from Morocco within a 24-hour period. While the vast majority of those individuals have since returned to Morocco, the incident highlighted ongoing cross-border pressures. These escalating border measures underscore the ongoing logistical and political challenges shared by Spain and Italy concerning migratory routes.
