The defense team for former President Hashim Thaçi has formally petitioned the Special Court in The Hague for his conditional release. The request asserts that Thaçi does not present a flight risk and includes an offer of a financial guarantee of 50 thousand euros to secure his freedom. The application details a comprehensive set of conditions that the former president is prepared to abide by.
These stipulations are designed to ensure his compliance while allowing for potential release. Key conditions include Thaçi’s agreement not to leave the territory of Kosovo and the surrender of all travel and identification documents to the Court. Furthermore, Thaçi has committed to refraining from making any public statements, either directly or indirectly through media or social networks, regarding the proceedings.
He also agrees to restrict discussions about his case solely to designated members of his defense team. The proposed conditions are extensive, requiring him to abide by measures similar to those imposed on his co-accused. These include providing a fixed residential address and submitting to weekly verification by the Kosovo Police.
As a precondition for his release, he must deposit the financial guarantee of 50 thousand euros. Additionally, Thaçi must refrain from any direct or indirect contact with his co-accused or any witnesses involved in the case. The terms also mandate his cooperation with the Court, requiring him to attend hearings as requested and comply with any subsequent orders issued by the Single Trial Judge.
Failure to adhere to these terms could result in the forfeiture of the guarantee and immediate arrest.
