The 21st protest against investment in Zvërnec, joined by Albanians from the diaspora

A demonstration took place today in Skënderbej Square as part of the 21st protest concerning the proposed tourist development in Zvërnec. The demonstration saw participation from local citizens and members of the diaspora. Following their assembly in the central square, the assembled protesters marched toward the Prime Minister’s building.

Upon gathering in the square, the event commenced with the singing of the national anthem, followed by speeches delivered by various activists and concerned citizens. The protesters carried banners and flags, during which they reiterated their demand for an immediate halt to the development plans in Zvërnec. Among the visible demands displayed was a banner calling for the resignation of the prime minister by April 21, 2026, while also issuing a warning regarding potential unrest if those conditions were not met.

The protesters outlined several core demands during the demonstration. These included, among others, the resignation of the prime minister, alongside several other specific points detailed by the participants. The overall protest aimed to draw significant public and political attention to the environmental and developmental concerns surrounding the Zvërnec site.

The gathering at the square served as a focal point for sustained public dissent against the proposed project.

  1. I hope the protesters can find a productive dialogue with the developers instead of just continuing the demonstrations.
