The Mayor of the Municipality of Hanit e Elezit, Mehmet Ballazhi, has addressed the recurring issue of vandalism and subsequent damages affecting several recently completed capital projects within the city. Ballazhi noted that various public spaces and infrastructural elements have sustained damage, raising concerns over the preservation of public assets. Specific instances of damage cited include the glass panels of the City Museum, which reportedly suffered damage for the second time shortly after undergoing replacement.
Furthermore, the side glass of the panoramic balcony situated near the prominent UÇK letters was damaged. Another site of concern was Pishat Park, where a drinking water fountain, originally donated by a citizen, sustained damage. Mayor Ballazhi emphasized that these incidents represent more than mere material damages to objects or infrastructure.
He stressed that the vandalization constitutes damage to public investments made specifically for the welfare and use of the citizenry. In response to the pattern of incidents, the Municipality has announced proactive measures. Ballazhi confirmed that the local administration is currently in the process of installing surveillance cameras across key areas.
This initiative aims to deter future acts of vandalism and better secure the integrity of the newly completed municipal projects, ensuring that public investments remain intact for the benefit of the community.
