The defense team representing Xhelal Sveçla, the acting Minister of Internal Affairs, has voiced dissatisfaction regarding the recent ruling issued by the court. The defense characterized the decision as “unusual” following the finding of his client’s guilt. Previously, the Basic Court in Pristina had found Sveçla guilty concerning an incident in 2018 involving the alleged throwing of tear gas into the Kosovo Parliament.
Lawyer Laur Prenaj confirmed that an appeal will be lodged once the full, reasoned decision is officially received. Prenaj pointed out that the current ruling constitutes only a partial decision, and therefore, further waiting is necessary before any comprehensive commentary can be made, as the right to appeal will certainly be exercised. During the proceedings, Prenaj also criticized the foundation of the case against Sveçla, suggesting that the original indictment contained issues from its inception.
He stated that the defense had previously highlighted these concerns during the hearing process. The proceedings underscore an ongoing legal dispute, with the defense maintaining its intent to challenge the court’s finding through the appellate process.
