The current circumstances are remarkably absurd and frequently encountered. Ziadin Sela characterized the government’s explanations for suspending the Strugë-Qafë Thanë construction project as remarkably simplistic. He asserted that any conversations regarding UNESCO standards necessitate a direct confrontation with illegal building activities within the Lake Ohrid region.
“If we intend to discuss UNESCO, we absolutely must tackle the numerous unregulated structures encircling Lake Ohrid, specifically in Ohrid and Struga,” Sela emphasized. “Considering Struga’s greater prominence within the UNESCO zone compared to Ohrid, it’s crucial to recognize that Corridor 8, spanning from Trebenishta to Qafë Thanë, maintains a minimum aerial distance of at least one kilometer from the lake’s edge.”
Furthermore, the discussion of the Kërçovë-Ohër and Ohrin highway segment requires acknowledgement of its linear path. This section of road, a line in the air, represents a significant distance from Lake Ohrid.
The entire situation underscores the urgent need for addressing these issues within the context of the UNESCO protected area surrounding Ohrid.
