The Minister of Defence has requested the head of the US Army’s staff to resign.

Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth has initiated a forceful request for the immediate resignation and retirement of Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff General Randy George, according to sources close to the decision for CBS News. The move reflects a desire for a shift in leadership within the military. One source indicated that Hegseth seeks an individual who will effectively carry out the strategic vision established by both himself and President Trump regarding the armed forces.

A senior official at the Department of Defense communicated to CBS News, “We acknowledge and value his extensive service, however, a leadership transition was necessary within the army.”

General George’s tenure included a prior role as a senior military staff member to Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin, spanning from 2021 to 2022, during the Biden administration. This followed decades of dedicated service. Prior to this, George was a distinguished career infantry officer and a graduate of West Point, having participated in his initial service during the First Gulf War.

The circumstances surrounding this request highlight a deliberate effort to align the leadership of the Joint Chiefs with the current strategic objectives.
