“Together in Science,” the academic diaspora—great potential for the development of science in Kosovo

The University of Pristina recently hosted the second annual “Together in Science” Forum, an event designed to bolster collaboration between the university’s academic staff and diaspora scholars. The primary goal of the forum was to strengthen cooperation across scientific research and support the institution’s overall development. During the event, Arben Hajrullahu, Rector of the University of Pristina, addressed the importance of integrating international expertise.

Hajrullahu confirmed that the university has established a formal regulatory framework to support the advancement of professors who are part of the diaspora community. He noted that the institution currently has nine associated professors from the diaspora. Speaking to the attendees, Hajrullahu asserted that the diaspora scholars are integral members of the university community, stating, “The University of Pristina is your home.

You are not guests here, but part of the University of Pristina.” He expressed hope that the number of associated professors from the diaspora, alongside their active participation, would grow through joint research and development initiatives. Hajrullahu highlighted the significant potential represented by the academic diaspora. The forum underscored the commitment of the university to fostering a collaborative environment where local and international scholars can work together to advance scientific knowledge and institutional capacity.
