Toshkovski: “Safe City” results are undeniable, 17 fewer victims this year

Interior Minister Pançe Toshkovski reported a measurable decrease in the number of fatalities attributed to traffic law violations during the initial period of the year. Speaking during a session on “Top Tema,” Toshkovski highlighted the impact of the newly implemented “Safe City” system. The Minister provided a comparative analysis, contrasting the first five months of 2026 with the same period in 2025.

According to the figures presented, the number of deaths resulting from traffic violations saw a reduction. Specifically, Toshkovski stated that during the first five months of 2025, there were 56 recorded victims, compared to 39 victims during the first five months of 2026. Toshkovski emphasized that these statistics represent a concrete reduction in incidents.

He noted that the Ministry of Interior dedicated two years of work toward developing and implementing the comprehensive safety project. The successful deployment of the “Safe City” fine system, which began in January of this year, is cited as a primary factor contributing to this observed decline in casualties. The data presented underscores a correlation between the enforcement measures and public safety outcomes.

The Ministry maintains that the sustained focus on traffic compliance and infrastructure improvement is yielding tangible results in reducing the overall risk associated with vehicular travel.
