Windows 11 introduces a new search feature – what is “Search by Substring”

Microsoft has rolled out a new capability within Windows 11 known as “Search by Substring,” designed to enhance the efficiency and flexibility of the system’s search function. This new feature allows users to locate files and applications by inputting only a portion of the desired name, rather than requiring the complete title. Essentially, the operating system can now identify and return results based on partial or “fragment” matches within the search term.

Microsoft stated that this enhancement is intended to significantly improve the overall search experience within Windows 11, particularly for users who manage extensive collections of documents and folders where locating specific files can be time-consuming. The underlying mechanism improves the accuracy and speed of the search process. Currently, this functionality is undergoing a testing phase and is scheduled for inclusion in forthcoming updates to the Windows operating system, pending further user evaluation.

The implementation aims to make the search mechanism more intuitive and robust for general use. This development underscores Microsoft’s commitment to refining core system utilities, ensuring that the search capability remains a powerful and adaptable tool for modern computing environments.
