Lumir Abdixhiku, the leader of the Democratic League of Kosovo (LDK), issued a statement following a meeting with Albin Kurti, the leader of the Vetëvendosje Movement. During his remarks, Abdixhiku emphasized that the immediate priority must be the constitution of the parliament. He asserted that the LDK has not made any demands regarding delays in forming the legislature.
Specifically, Abdixhiku stated, “I expect us to proceed with the only thing that needs to be done, which is the constitution of the Parliament. There is no reason for the constitution of the Parliament to be delayed.” He stressed the urgency of the matter, adding that a constitutive session should take place that very day, asserting that any postponement is unnecessary. According to reports from Telegrafi, Abdixhiku warned that the LDK’s stance would remain firm if the process were perceived as a tactic for negotiation leverage.
He issued a clear ultimatum, stating, “If it is done for negotiating tactics, the LDK will not comply, and the Republic will not be handed over. We will neither comply nor be handed over.”
The statement underscored the LDK’s singular focus: the immediate establishment of the parliamentary body. Abdixhiku’s comments were delivered in the context of ongoing political negotiations, positioning the timely convening of the legislature as the non-negotiable prerequisite for further political progress.
