Carriers today in protest in front of the EU Delegation in Skopje

Transport carriers organized by the local company “Makam-trans” are scheduled to hold a protest today, from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM, in front of the European Union Delegation in Skopje. The demonstration aims to address the issue of limited stay periods for professional drivers within the Schengen area. The protest serves as a precursor to a Working Group meeting scheduled for tomorrow in Brussels.

At this meeting, the carriers anticipate reaching a resolution regarding their status, which has been complicated by the EU’s 90/180 rule. This regulation limits the stay of third-country nationals to a maximum of 90 days within any 180-day period. Approximately 20 trucks from Skopje are expected to park at the EU Delegation during the protest.

These vehicles will be accompanied by owners of transport companies, drivers, and associated employees. The organized action highlights the industry’s concern over current regulations impacting cross-border professional transport. The carriers are seeking clarity and viable solutions to ensure the continuity of professional driving operations within the EU framework.
