Fire at a construction site in Brussels, several dead and missing

A significant fire occurred at a construction site in central Brussels, resulting in multiple fatalities and leaving several individuals unaccounted for, according to Belgian authorities. The blaze originated at the renovation project of the Oxy building, located in Place de Brouckère. At the time of the incident, over 200 workers were present at the site.

Emergency response teams were immediately deployed to manage the situation. Initial reports indicated that the fire began on the lower floors of the structure and was brought under control relatively quickly by firefighters. However, the flames subsequently spread through the elevator shafts, escalating the danger and eventually reaching an underground section of the building.

Firefighters managed to rescue a number of workers from the affected area. Nevertheless, authorities confirmed that several people were found dead, and six individuals remain missing. The precise cause of the fire is currently under investigation by specialized teams.

Local media outlets reported that the spread of the fire through the vertical shafts complicated rescue efforts. Officials emphasized that a full investigation is underway to determine the origin and sequence of events that led to the severe blaze at the construction site.
