From ‘Rafale’ planes to SAMP/T systems, Macron unveils the new weaponry to be sent to Kyiv

France and Ukraine have formalized a strategic “roadmap” detailing significant military support packages, according to French President Emmanuel Macron. The agreement centers on the procurement of 16 Rafale fighter jets and associated weaponry intended for use by Kyiv. Macron stated that the initial deployment of these aircraft is projected to take place over Ukrainian skies between 2028 and 2029.

Beyond the fighter jets, the plan aims to substantially enhance Ukraine’s air defense capabilities. Kyiv will also acquire new-generation SAMP/T anti-air batteries. Macron noted that these systems will complement other defense mechanisms, including associated missiles, which are scheduled for delivery in the near future.

The comprehensive agreement extends to critical technological transfers and materiel shipments. It stipulates the delivery of advanced radar systems and, notably, grants Ukraine the license to manufacture several key components. These include AASM bombs, Aster 30 anti-missile missiles, and Scalp cruise missiles.

The announcement was made by Macron following the conclusion of the “NATO Alliance” summit held in Paris. The roadmap represents a multi-faceted commitment designed to bolster Ukraine’s defense posture through advanced hardware, maintenance, and local production capacity.
