Bedri Hamza, the leader of the Democratic Party of Kosovo (PDK), has confirmed his acceptance of an invitation from Albin Kurti, the leader of the Vetëvendosje Movement. The two are scheduled to hold a meeting on Friday as part of ongoing efforts to establish new state institutions. Following a PDK Presidency meeting, Hamza announced his positive response to the invitation, suggesting a 9:00 AM start time.
He stated, “I returned the letter that the Democratic Party of Kosovo is ready for a meeting tomorrow at 09:00 in the premises of the Kosovo Assembly.”
While emphasizing PDK’s willingness to engage in political discussions, Hamza clarified the prerequisites for such talks. He stressed that the primary focus of the meeting must be on national priorities and the overall vision for Kosovo, rather than the immediate allocation of government positions. “I will behave in a responsible and institutional manner…
before we talk about positions, I have said and I repeat that it is very important to talk about priorities, vision for the future, program and addressing the challenges that Kosovo has,” Hamza declared. He added that without agreement on these foundational issues, PDK would not support discussions regarding ministerial posts, the Speaker of the Assembly, or the presidency. These invitations were extended by Albin Kurti to the leaders of several parties previously in opposition.
Government Spokesperson Arlind Manjhuka reported that invitations were sent that morning to Hamza (PDK), Lumir Abdixhiku (LDK), and Ardian Gjini (AAK) to discuss the formation of new institutions following the early elections. Kurti reportedly dispatched the letters one day after the Central Election Commission certified the results of the June 7 elections.
