Macedonia’s Parliament: We have requested information from the Embassy of Albania regarding the stopping of our citizens at the border

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of North Macedonia recently met with a representative from the Embassy of the Republic of Albania in Macedonia to discuss an incident that occurred at the “Qafë Thanë” border crossing. The discussion centered on reports indicating that three local officials—MP Bekim Qoku, MP Adnan Azizi, and Deputy Secretary-General Hasim Murtezani—had reportedly been subjected to an entry ban when attempting to travel to Albania. When questioned by local media regarding the status of the officials and the alleged entry restrictions within Albania, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that it had formally requested comprehensive information concerning the incident from the Albanian Embassy located in the country.

The narrative surrounding the border crossing presented conflicting accounts. While reports initially suggested an entry ban for the three VLEN officials, subsequent information from Albanian Customs suggested a different outcome. According to the customs authorities, the three Macedonian officials were permitted to pass freely.

However, they ultimately opted to return to Macedonia rather than proceeding further into Albania. The meeting underscores ongoing diplomatic coordination between the two nations regarding border procedures and the status of its citizens. The engagement with the Albanian Embassy aims to clarify the precise circumstances surrounding the alleged restriction and ensure adherence to established protocols between Macedonia and Albania.
