Mickoski: We are ready for an election unit

Prime Minister Christian Mickoski announced that the Government and OBRM-PDUKM are prepared to accept a single electoral unit structure and the Left Party’s demands for increased funding for smaller political parties. This conditional acceptance is contingent upon the passage of the new Electoral Code. Speaking after a recent gathering of political parties in Parliament, Mickoski noted that while OBRM-PDUKM maintains that the vote of the diaspora remains a strategic priority, he observed that certain parties have adopted uncompromising positions.

“Our stance is clear,” Mickoski stated. “If they want more money, let them have less for us and more for them. Afterwards, we will also agree on a single electoral unit.

We are ready to accept all the demands of the LSDM and its coalition partners.”

Mickoski emphasized that the foundation of democracy requires decision-making by a majority consensus. The statements suggest a willingness from the ruling bloc to negotiate key structural elements of the electoral process, provided the legislative hurdles, specifically the new Code, are cleared. The willingness of the parties to compromise on funding allocations and electoral units marks a significant development in the ongoing political negotiations.
