The case that shocked America – the mother admitted to killing her three children, but the jury failed to convict her

A Massachusetts court has declared a mistrial against Lindsay Clancy, accused of murdering her three children, after the jury failed to reach a unanimous verdict after nearly a week of deliberations. Clancy, 36 years old and a former nurse, is accused of killing her three children in 2023: Core, 5 years old, Dawson, 3 years old, and Callan, just 8 months old. After the incident, she attempted to commit suicide by jumping out of a window and suffered serious injuries.

The defense does not deny that Clancy killed the children, but argues that she suffered from postpartum psychosis and therefore cannot be held criminally responsible for her actions. The jury returned to court three times to announce that it was unable to reach an agreement. The judge then decided to dismiss the case, CNN reports.

This decision does not mean that Clancy has been declared innocent. She remains in custody and continues to reside in a psychiatric facility. The prosecution may request a new trial or explore other legal options.

The next hearing is scheduled for September 29, when it is expected to be announced what steps the prosecution will take. The case has attracted widespread attention in the US and sparked a debate about postpartum psychosis. US President Donald Trump has also spoken out on the issue.
